About the project
When Something Happens aims to help ensure voters have clear and accurate information if they encounter challenges while voting in the 2026 elections.
The project delivers resources that election officials can use to provide calm, clear, and nonpartisan messages to voters in the event of an incident that creates challenges for voters.

Making the site accessible
We have designed it so it will reformat to fit onto different-sized screens on laptops and mobile devices.
We also used the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 as guidance. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone, and identify requirements for good coding practice.
We’ve worked hard on the site and believe we’ve achieved our goal of Level AA accessibility. We monitor the website regularly to maintain this, but if you do find any problems, please get in touch at wsh@civicdesign.org.

How we use your information
When Something Happens does not collect any information from people who visit this site.

We log standard technical information, such as your IP address and the kind of browser you use. We log this information for troubleshooting purposes and to track which pages people visit in order to improve the site. We do not use log files to track a particular individual’s use of the website.
When Something Happens may use third-party services such as Google Analytics. This helps us understand traffic patterns and identify problems with our site. The website uses a cookie for measuring aggregate web statistics, including the number of monthly visitors, the number of repeat visitors, the most popular webpages, and other information.
